Off road transportation cost calculations for ground based forest harvesting systems

چکیده

Ground based systems are the main approach used for off-road timber transportation throughout the world. Estimates of terrain transportation costs are required for several forest planning problems and for assessment of harvesting contracts and forest land values. Methods for these calculations can be categorized into two groups. Methods based on average transportation distance predate computers, are analytical, and based on manual calculations. Network methods are based on weighted graph representations and are solved with graph methods. Here, the two categories are compared and linked. Analytical methods in the literature have been limited to flat terrain and including detail is difficult. The network method can be extended to include uneven terrain or detailed input data.

Designing a Forest Road Network Using Mixed Integer Programming

Nacrtak Forest roads are an essential yet costly part of forest management, and optimization methods are important tools for planning road systems to support harvesting. This paper presents a Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) optimization model to design a forest access system consisting of logging roads for trucking and access spurs for skidding. The network designed is hierarchical in the sense...

Optimum road spacing of ground based skidding operations in Nowshahr, Iran

The optimum road spacing has been studied by many researches. It is an important step of forest road network planning. The goals of this study are determining the optimum road spacing in Kheiroudkenar forest of Nowshahr in Northern Iran and study of effect of kind of skidder on skidding cost and road spacing. Continues time study method was used to determine the production rate of TAF and Timbe...

Shape of Skidder Productivity Function for Ground Based Skidding System in Caspian Forests

Cut-to-length (CTL) timber harvesting technology currently accounts for approximately 90% of Caspian forests. The technology involves felling, branching, cross-cutting, and then the skidder carries the logs to a landing, where the timber is temporarily stored, sorted and assembled for transportation to the mill. Cut-to-length systems typically require less labor, less access road construction, ...
